In her extracts from contemporary authorities she amassed much valuable material, and her works contain pictures of the court, of society and of domestic life not to be found elsewhere" (DNB). Its popularity was such that a similar work dealing with Scottish queens was immediately undertaken. Queens of Scotland drew largely from contemporary authorities, and contained "much valuable material". [including] pictures of the court, of society, and of domestic life not to be found elsewhere" (DNB). "The biographies of Royal females," she writes, "afford not only instances of lofty and heroic characteristics elicited by striking reverses of fortune, but the most touching examples of all that is lovely, holy, and endearing in womanhood." Hall's work, with its focus on the Queens before the Norman Conquest, nicely complements Strickland's work. All volumes are first edition except for the first three of Queens of England, which are second edition, released within a year of the first. Fine condition. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
