Finely bound by Cedric Chivers of Bath in contemporary vellum, spine and board decorated with gilt tooling and watercolour under vellum, japon endpapers, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Illustrated frontispiece and title page on japon. Front board every slightly bowed, some light dust soiling to covers, internally clean, very good condition. First edition thus, in an original hand-decorated vellum binding signed by Cedric Chivers of Bath in his signature vellucent style. The British Library gives 1904 as the date for this India paper edition, which collects Tennyson's poetry up to 1859 including The Lady of Shalott, The Lotos-eaters, Ulysses, In Memoriam, The Princess, Maud and the Idylls of the King.
