This volume presents the detailed transcriptions of a series of investigations related to the failure of the "Jeannette" expedition, during which George DeLong with two of three parties lost their lives in the retreat from the abandoned "Jeannette" north of the Siberian coastline. The findings of the inquiry are summarized in the opening pages, which underline the failure by George Melville, leader of the surviving party, to seek assistance from the Russian authorities for resulting in the total loss the other parties. The transcriptions contain an extensive amount of information relating to the conduct, experiences, and aftermath of the "Jeannette" expedition.
