Castle Hill Press /J & N Wilson, Fordingbridge 2008 - First issue of this edition, One of 227 Copies. xxxii+144pp. There were only 40 Full goatskin copies of this edition, with extra map. T.E. Lawrence compiled 'Military Report on the Sinai Peninsula' - which is largely a compendium of route reports - while working in the Geographical Section of the General Staff at the War Office in the autumn of 1914. The report was printed - not well - as a military guidebook for restricted circulation. Five copies are known to survive. This first published edition is part of the scholarly Castle Hill Press edition of Lawrence's works and correspondence. Bound in full goatskin, this copy is in slipcase as issued with folder of maps. Threecolour facsimile maps issued with the edition are loosely inserted in a pocket at the rear. One is a route map showing the routes described in the guide; the other the "Wadi Jerafi" sheet from the 1:125,000 series of the Sinai Peninsula. This series is referred to in the guide. Lawrence helped prepare these maps for publication, although they - like the original printing of the 'Military Report' were completed after he had left for Cairo. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall [Attributes: Hard Cover]
