Octavo, original half vellum, original patterned boards, original acetate, original slipcase with paper label. $1500.First edition, one of only 500 specially bound copies signed by Williams on the limitation page.Williams wrote that his goal in The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone "was to arouse compassion for a sensitive nature, and how the awful obsession with power and fame change a once fine person into a caricature." His friend Donald Windham called it Williams' "first fictionalized self-portrait after his success"" and it displays a hair-raising degree of self knowledge" (Spoto, The Kindness of Strangers, 166).
