Paper Weaving Book (Paper Braiding Book) - Frobel, Freidrich [Froebel] - 1782. 
- Original stiff black folder with "Weaving" in gilt on the front with black ties through fore edge. Folder has edge wear. Owner name inscription in front pastedown. Interior is 15 7" x 5" accordion-fold pages of red and pink paper interlaced and overlain to form 1 to 3 geometric patterns of varying design per page. An additional four pages are blank. Cloth strips on edges of leaves have some soil. Freidrich Froebel (1782-1852) was the originator of the "kindergarten system." Paper folding, intelacing, and modeling was one of nine areas he emphasized to help stimulate hand-ey coordination and mental development. This volume, more complex and precise than the kindergarten projects, is an advanced example of paper braiding. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 15 pp [Attributes: Hard Cover]
