On verso of title: "The whole impression of this Catalogue consists of but 4 Copies on Pink Demy. 14 - Drawing Paper. 50 - Crimped Demy." This is one from the latter two issues. Cole's own private collection of books, including all his publications (this must be the best record of his many publications). 243 items, including many presentation and special copies. "Scarborough: imprinted by John Cole, Newborough Street. 1826. (Only 60 Copies printed.)" A really strange book, finding religious meaning is all aspects of book production and selling: "A sheet of Medium seems to say that there is no middle state between Heaven and Hell. -Super-Royal Paper carries the idea of the glittering gems and royal robes which wait for Christian Conquerors…Blotting paper may be said to have a reference to our sins being blotted out through the efficacy of the death of Christ." [bound with]:(-). A Pleasant and Profitable Journey to London; performed and described by John Cole. Woodcut illus. in the text. 11 pp. 12mo. Scarborough: "Printed (Only Fifty Copies) for Private Distribution, by John Cole, Newborough, 1828." An account of his trip to London to collect his share of a lottery prize. [bound with]:(-). The Oldfieldian Cookery Book. Receipts from the Cookery Port-folio of the late Jonathan Oldfield, Esq., of Scarborough. Title within typographical border. 1 p.l., ii, 24 pp. 12mo. Samuel Bottomley, of Scarborough. By John Cole. Engraved frontis. port. of Bottomley. 1 p.l., 21, [1] pp. 8vo. "Scarborough: Published by John Cole, at his Library, in Newborough. 1831." [bound with]:(-). Reminiscences Tributary to the Memory of Thomas Allen…By his Friend, John Cole. 8 pp. 8vo. "Northampton: Printed for Private Distribution, and Not for Sale. Four lithographed plates on colored paper & one folding lithographed plate. Pp. [1]-104 (lacking the preliminary leaves). Small 8vo. [Huntingdon: 1845]. Another charming group of eight publications by Cole, displaying his taste for limited editions and colored paper. This collection does not appear in the second edition of Miss Currer's private catalogue; it must have been purchased by her after the catalogue's publication in 1833. Fine copies. With the bookplate of Frances Mary Richardson Currer. ? Martin, Privately Printed Books, p. 387.
