Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain - 1885.
NY 1885 - Good+. This is a very solid copy of the First Edition, 3rd Issue/State of "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Tom Sawyer's Comrade). Scene: The Mississippi Valley. Time: Forty to Fifty Years Ago" with 174 illustrations. The issue points would indicate that this is the 3rd state of the First Edition, as the frontispiece does not show the cloth under the bust of Mr. Twain and the image is indicated to be a photo-gravure at the bottom of the page (BAL). Also, the list of illustrations has been corrected to indicate that the one entitled "Him and Another Man" is present on page 87 rather than 88, as it was in the first state (BAL). Also, on page 57, 11 lines up from the bottom the line reads 'with the saw' rather than 'with the was'. The copyright date listed is 1884 and the title page lists the year as 1885. These are the most important points and are consistent with a later state of the first edition. Still scarce, and still a very nice copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
