Printed in red and black in 2 columns. All edges gilt. Red and richly gilt decorated morocco with armorial to each board. Individual speckled calf lift top cases with red and gilt title labels and marbled paper lining. Joint cracked at foot of to cases. A very attractive set. The volume containing the daily hours of Roman Catholic prayers was published as the Breviarium Romanum (Roman Breviary) until the reforms of PAUL VI (1963-1978) when it became known as the litergy of the hours. As here the breviarium is often conveniently divided into 4 volumes each following the seasons, Winter (Pars Hiemalis), Spring (Pars Verna), Summer (Pars Aestiva) and Autumn (Pars Autumnalis). The amorials incorporated into the decoration are the coat of arms of Engelbet Sterckx (1792-1867), Cardinal and Archbishop of Mechelen. A heavy set which may be subject to additional postage.
