Historische tentoonstelling van Friesland - [MATTHIJSSEN, Gerarda Henrietta] - 1877.
NCC (2 copies); cf. C. Boschma, ?De historische tentoonstelling van Friesland in 1877? in: De vrije Fries LVII (1977), pp. 17-32; for Matthijsen and Ringler see: photographen.nl. Album containing 37 photographs (including 1 repeat) of the Historical exhibition of Friesland held in the royal palace of Leeuwarden in the summer of 1877, giving a valuable display of the exhibition and its historical artefacts. The well-received photos were made by the, Leeuwarden-based, female photographer Gerarda Henrietta Matthijssen (1846-1879) by request of Antiquarian Cabinet of Friesland, upon which she was allowed to call herself royal photographer. The photos were apparently also sold together in a limited issue album as we could locate two other copies: one in the library of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam and one in the collection of Tresoar, Leeuwarden. One of the three loosely inserted leaves with photographs, contains a manuscript owner's inscription of another Leeuwarden-based photographer, Hendrik Anthonie Karel Ringler (1846-1879).Some minor thumbing on the title-page and some occasional foxing throughout, not affecting the photographs, otherwise in very good condition. Binding slightly rubbed along the extremities, otherwise good.
