The Travels Of the Late Charles Thompson - Thompson, Charles - 1744.
J. Newbery and C Micklewright, Reading 1744 - Three volumes in brown leather with five raised bands and maroon title labels to spines, 448, 432, and 404 pages. Vol. I: 1744: 448 p., four folding maps, three of which are hand coloured. Vol. II: 1744: 432 p., one black and white folding map, three black and white folding plates. Vol. III: 1752: 404 p., three hand coloured folding maps. Total: eight maps and three plates. Other descriptions of this set that I have seen list differing numbers of maps and plates; whatever the number, there are definitely some plates missing from this set. Condition notes: All volumes: Boards either separated or attached by cords only. Many maps and plates that are present show substantial wear and tear. Vol. I: Spine break at middle of book, pages 275-286 loose. Last page browned from contact with leather. Vol. II: Damage to lower corner through page 8, affecting ffep, title page, and folding map of Constantinople. Damage to lower corner of last pages from page 421 to end. Vol. III: Ffep loose and battered, last page browned from contact with leather. Despite all of this, a very readable and collectible set, which clearly shows its 270+ year age. Rare.
