Bouillon, aux depens de la Societe Typographique, 1778. 3 volumes, complete set, French text, FIRST EDITION 1778, 8vo, 205 x 120 mm, 8 x 4½ inches, portrait frontispiece in Volume I by La Tour (portraitist to Louis XV), engraved by Cathelin, vignette on title pages, 56 of 57 engraved plates by Martini, Marillier, Monnet et Moreau, LACKING PLATE XVI IN VOLUME I, a duplicate plate XL inserted in its place, 13 vignette headpieces by Monnet, floral and pictorial tailpieces, pages: vi, 304; viii, 320; (vi), 236, 102, bound in marbled boards with vellum tips, with a modern calf reback richly gilt in gilt ruled compartments, contrasting gilt lettered morocco labels, original endpapers retained. Endpapers lightly browned, Volume I: frontispiece slightly foxed with faint offsetting onto title page, slight marks to blank verso of title and to first page of Contents table, no loss, very occasional tiny pale mark within, otherwise very clean; Volumes II & III: occasional faint offset from plates onto facing text, very occasional pale fox spot.
