Twenty-six octavo volumes. With the original prospectus announcing the set and a check signed by Stevenson tipped-in at front. Photogravure frontispiece portraits. With an introduction by Lloyd Osbourne in Volume I. Full navy blue levant morocco. Spines decoratively tooled in gilt in a thistle design and lettered in gilt. Boards ruled in gilt, gilt turn-ins. Top edge gilt. Blue endpapers. Spines all lightly sunned and a few headcaps chipped. Previous owner's gift inscription on front free endpaper. A beautifully bound set. Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894), Scottish essayist, poet, and author of fiction and travel books, known especially for his novels of adventure. His major works include Treasure Island (1883), A Childs Garden of Verses (1885), Kidnapped (1886), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886), The Black Arrow (1888), and The Master of Ballantrae (1889). "Though his novels are perhaps less successfully accomplished than his briefer tales and stories, his work is marked by his power of invention, his command of horror and the supernatural, and the psychological depth which he was able to bring to romance" (Benéts Readers Encyclopedia).
