The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby - Dickens, Charles - 1839.
Chapman and Hall, London 1839 - First edition, with "visiter" rather than "sister" to page 123 and "latter" rather than "letter" to page 160. Unusually the book features 75 plates plus the frontispiece, the additional illustrations being by "Peter Palette"(Thomas Onwhyn). The book is firmly and squarely bound in contemporary half leather, with marbled boards, matching marbled endpapers and marbling to the edges of the text block, it looks to have been re-cased at some point with repairs to the gutters, it is externally rubbed and bumped, but reasonably clean. The text block is foxed and age toned, with some staining, it is free from inscriptions, but has damage to some page edges, the corners of both pages 123 and 125 have been torn off, not affecting the text. An uncommon find with the Onwhyn illustrations as well as those by "Phiz". [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
