Nicely and uniformly bound in contemporary marbled calf; spine with 5 raised bands and richly gilt tooled with floral decoration in the compartments, gilt lettered and numbered on red morocco labels; marbled end-papers, edges red washed (a splendid 18th century binding with only a few minute defaults).A very nice, attractive and complete copy of this series of epistolary consultations. ONLY two other complete copies recorded in the WorldCat (NLM & BNF.). Little is known about the author, He was "docteur rgent de la Facult de Paris" and physician to Louis XV. The work itselfs consist of 150 letters from patients to the doctor, composed between 1735 and 1746. Le Thieullier, strongly influenced by Hoffmann, published these letter to instruct the "jeunes mdecins". All together these "consultations" gives a magnificent idea of the medical practise during the period in France (Paris) and the pathological conditions involved, i.a. hemiplegia, tuberculosis, migraines, cardiac and circullation failures, cancer of the cervix, glaucoma, stones, cirrhosis of liver, etc. The first volume is here in the second (corrected?) edition, the other volumes are in first edition.
