Date: May, 1959, China-Hungary - Original, vintage, black and white press photograph. Labelled in Hungarian on verso. Size: 157 × 189 mm. This vintage press photo shows Chairman Mao and Zhou Enlai, the Premier of the People's Republic of China among a delegation of Hungarian politician in May 1959, at the occasion of signing the Chinese-Hungarian Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. The treaty was singed by Zhou Enlai and the Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Münnich on 6 May 1959 in Beijing, and it was the culmination of the friendly bilateral relations between the two communist countries. Hungary supported China's domestic and international aspirations, and the countries singed several less significant agreements in the spirit of mutual recognition, throughout a decade, since the declaration of the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949. China and Hungary already exchanged a number of visits of high ranking politicians until 1959. At this occasion the Hungarian delegation was led by Prime Minister Ferenc Münnich, and participated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Endre Sík and the Deputy Minister of Culture György Aczél beside others. This was the last visit of a Hungarian Prime Minister to China in the 20th century. Traces of creases at upper corners, otherwise in very good condition.
