Picturesque America - William Cullen Bryant - 1872.
- London - D Appleton and Company, 1872 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. The complete two volumes of this popular travel text. A beautifully illustrated series which grew out of an earlier series in Appleton's Journal. The volumes describe and illustrate the scenery of America. Collated, complete. The engravings display the work of some of the best American landscape painters of the nineteenth century. The work is primarily Henry Fenn's and his friend Douglas Woodward. Edited by romantic poet and journalist William Cullen Bryant, also known as the editor for the New York Evening Post. This text is thought to have had a profound influence of the growth of tourism and the historic preservation movement in the United States.
