Pheasant Drawings - David Lank & illustrated by Joseph Wolf - 1988.
Kingston Upon Hull - Allen 1988 - A limited edition of this beautiful collection of the famous natural history illustrators, signed by the editor David Lank. With paper binding not the hard cover normally issued and therefore we think a proof copy. Signed as usual. Joseph Wolf was German, but moved to the British museum in 1848. He worked for many of the 19th century's explorers and naturalists, including David Livingstone, Alfred Russell Wallace, and Henry Walter Bates. He is thought of as having established wildlife art as a genre, andhe is known particularly for his illustrations of birds. This volume presents his many sketches and drawings of pheasants. Each plate has accompanying notes, written by David Lank. These notes include information on taxonomy as well as notes on the drawings themselves. This is a unique and large collection of the works of a man that Sir Edwin Landseer called, without exception, the greatest all-round animal artist that ever lived. Collated: complete. Condition: Disbound. Likely to be a proof copy. Externally smart, with a little wear to the extremities. The text block is generally clean and bright throughout, and is itself firmly bound. Overall VERY GOOD INDEED [Attributes: Hard Cover]
