Superb condition, 1st ed, 1601, 2 plates.In superb modern full calf, gilt edge tooling, retaining earlier gilt enhanced coat of arms to both covers. Spine, gilt tooling, raised bands, gilt titles to calf label. Internally, new endpapers,  blank leaf, 1 engraved titlepage (text to verso), 1 portrait, , 364 pp, (cccxlvii), (10) index,  colophon,  blank leaves, bound in along gutter are 7 short & 1 long strip of black ink MS (probably found when rebound?), text block edges reddened, in excess of 600 woodcut illustrations within text, the first herbal to include fungi, the portrait has the ms name W: Raby at base, horizontal and vertical chains with the hand as a watermark, pinhole at p196, decorative tail-pieces and initials, book plate to fpd (William Charles De Meufon, Earl Fitzwilliam).Carolus Clusius, French Charles de L'Écluse or Charles de l'Escluse(born February 19, 1526, Arras, France--died April 4, 1609, Leiden, Netherlands), botanist who contributed to the establishment of modern botany. He was best known by the Latin version of his name, Carolus Clusius.
