Bracebridge Hall, Life of GoldsmithWith an illustrated frontispiece to each volume, a red and black title page and upwards of 65 plates across all 10 volumes. No collation available, though the volumes present appear complete. No date to title page, dated from other publications published by Wanamaker. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedowns, D. M Coffin. John Wanamaker was aUnited States merchant and religious civic and political figure. Washington Irving was a short story writer, essayist, biographer, historian and diplomat of the early 19th century. He is best known for his short stories 'Rip Van Winkle' and 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' both of which are in The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. He wrote many satires, including his History of New York and Salmagundi as well as Romantic histories, biographies and essays. Condition: In uniform half calf bindings with gilt stamped detail to the spines. Externally smart with just some minor rubbing to the head and tail of spines. Small loss to head of spines to volumes II, IV, VI, and VII. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedowns, D M Coffin. Internally,all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are very bright with scattered spots throughout. Overall: VERY GOOD.
