Privately Printed by the Cliosophic Society of Lancaster for Its Members, Philadelphia 1904 - 4to. Stunning all-over gilt stylized bud and fern motif with diagonal and rectilinear ruled lines, ornate borders on both covers, spine and dentelles by Hyman Zucker, prominent Philadelphia bookbinder in the early 1900's. Marbled endsheets, AEG. With preliminary Publication Page stating "Privately Printed; Exclusively for the Members; Edition Lomited. This Copy No. [left blank] For M. [left blank]. A handsome binding on a curious literary club, The Cleosophic Society of Lancaster, formed in 1879, whose charter was, according to the introduction, "for the purpose of promoting congenial literary study and improvement and refined social intercourse between a number persons of kindred tastes." The Cliosophic Society continues today, engaging in national political debates. Slight wear to corners and spine, near fine. [Attributes: First Edition]
