No Highway in the Sky [No Highway] (Original - Koster, Henry (director); Nevil S - 1950. [1219773]
Twentieth Century-Fox, Los Angeles / London 1950 - Final Shooting script for the 1951 film, here under its working title, "No Highway." Profusely annotated by a studio secretary on the inside rear wrapper, over time, regarding at least eight script revisions, with dates ranging from 10/4/50 to 11/13/50. Based on the 1948 novel by Nevil Shute. The second pairing of Jimmy Stewart and Marlene Dietrich, after their splash together in "Destry Rides Again" (1939).Theodore Honey is an aeronautical engineer being sent to Labrador from London to examine the wreckage of a new passenger plane designed by his company. His theory is that the planes are susceptible to metal fatigue after a specific amount of time in the air. The absent minded Honey boards the Reindeer class plane and only realizes that this plane is due to fail in the next few hours after the plane is airborne. He decides to warn the crew and creates an incident regardless of whether he is right or wrong. A somewhat obscure and much underappreciated drama.Goldenrod titled wrappers, noted as Final Shooting Script on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped production No. 2459. Distribution page present, with receipt removed. 172 leaves, mimeograph, with blue and pink revision pages throughout. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good, internally bound with three gold brads.
