Da quel tuo gentil sembiante Aria. Musical - ?CIMAROSA, Domenico 1749-1801 - 1789.
1789. We have been unable to identify the opera from which this aria is excerpted. The only recorded opera with an aria with the same incipit is not by Cimarosa (Oronte, Re de' Sciti, a pasticcio with music by Johann Adolf Hasse and Niccolò Jommelli performed in Hamburg in 1745; the libretto was printed, but its author is not identified; see Erich Hermann Mueller von Asow: Angelo und Pietro Mingotti: Ein Beitrag zur Geschichte der Oper im XVIII. Jahrhundert, p. cxxix). Cimarosa is not known to have written an opera on the subject of Orontes (Oronte); the ascription of the present aria is thus somewhat curious.. Oblong folio (320 x 230 mm.). [i] (title), 46, [i] (blank) pp. Notated in ink on 10-stave paper. Ascription to title in the hand of the copyist: "Del Sigr. D. Domenico Cimarosa." Date "1789" to upper right corner of title. Price, "f. 6," to lower right corner of title, probably in the hand of the copyist. Various watermarks, one of them reading "AM," another "BFA" with three crescents.Eight-stave systems: Corni in Elafa [=E flat], Flauti, Violini, Viole, Fagotto, Canto, [Basso]. Key is B-flat major. Bass line not figured. Canto in soprano clef; the highly virtuosic part reaches the top note of d''' several times. Text:[Andante sostenuto, 3/4]Da quel tuo gentil sembiantenacque in me primiero amoree nel sen un cor costanteserberà sempre per te.[Allegro, 4/4]Già ritorna nel mio pettoquella calma che perdeiche avanzado con dilettopiù s'accresce la mia fè.Occasional stains, also to title. A very good copy overall.
