Anna Karenina / In Eight Parts - Tolstoi, Count Lyof N. / Translated by - 1886.
Thomas Y. Crowell & Co., New York 1886 - "Eight Parts" in one volume. Very good in original green cloth with original pale green floral endpapers complete. Corners bumped and some modest wear to head and heel of spine. Will close its own text block but not its boards. Gilt Romanov seal and gilt titles sharp to front board; gilt titles to spine somewhat dulled but still easily legible. A few small brown spots to front page edges. Hinges are lovely; have not been repaired and are in no need of repair. Publisher's ornate monogram to title page. Only date showing is 1886 to copyright page; no later printings mentioned. None of the author's works listed opposite title page; that page is blank. (It's generally accepted the first printing of this edition of Karenina are identified by lack of titles to this page -- later printings add progressively more titles.) 773 pp. including the glossary, followed by 5 pp. of publisher's ads, not including any Russian titles. Thus, first state, first printing of the first English-language edition (preceding the British) from its first year of publication. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
