The Limited Editions Club, New York 1983 - Limited Edition of 1500, this no. 651, SIGNED by the author, the author of the introduction, and the artist; Monthly Newsletter loosely laid in. The stories of six survivors of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, covering a period of time immediately prior to and one year after the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945 - it has remained continuously in print since the first edition in 1946, according to New Yorker essayist Roger Angell, because "[the] story became a part of our ceaseless thinking about world wars and nuclear holocaust" (N.B., from Wiki). This version with eight original silkscreens by Jacob Lawrence, printed in eleven colours, boldly capturing the essence of the text. ***DESCRIPTION: Fully bound in black aniline top grain leather, title blind-embossed on the front board, all edges stained black, black endpapers, the eight silkscreens tissue-guarded; book design by Ben Shiff, printed at the Wild Carrot Letterpress, Foundry Optima text, hand-set, Mohawk wove paper; folio size (approximately 12.5" tall), unpaginated; limited edition of 1500 copies, this no. 651, signed by both authors and the artist, loosely laid in are the Monthly Newsletter and a card from the publisher regarding care of the leather binding. The publisher's slipcase is fully bound in black cloth with title in very dark red letters on the spine. ***CONDITION: Volume is fine, with the leather binding being soft and supple, a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings. The publisher's slipcase is near fine, strong and sturdy, with minor occasional fraying and light dustiness to the outer cloth.
