Part 4. 442 pp. DECEMBER to FEBRUARY. 8vo, woodcut device designed by Morris on title page; original green cloth with paper labels on spines, light to moderate wear at extremities, tears at spine ends, labels soiled and somewhat worn, generally good and sound although weakening to the hinges. Yellowing to pages. Volumes I and 2 (in 1), 1868, first edition, first issue, with misprint "my" for "thy" on p. 75 line 9 (up from the bottom of the page - ."Where are my (should be 'thy') friends, why art thou so alone"; each copy signed by John Drinkwater on the front free end paper and with his bookplate to the front paste down. Forman 17. Forman p. 66 notes that this title-page and label were inserted into volume IV for the use of owners of the 1868 Volume 1 edition (they ARE present in this set in Vol IV). Volume III, 1870, first edition, with the 2pp. publisher's ads inserted at front, as required by Forman 23; this copy with hinges cracked. Volume IV, 1870, first edition, with the title page and label for the 1868 version of Volume I inserted at back (see photos); Forman 30, stating "I have met with very few copies of Part IV containing the extra title and label." Condition Report Externally Spine fair to good condition tears to top and bottom of spine, and paper labels worn. Joints good condition - worn. Corners fair to good condition - bumped and worn. Boards good condition front and rear board marked on all three vols. Page edges good condition - dusty top edge. See above and photos. Internally Hinges fair condition cracked with webbing showing on both front and rear hinges of vol.1, and cracked front and rear hinge on vol. 3. Front paste down good condition - bookplate of John Drinkwater. Front end paper good condition - signature of John Drinkwater. Title good condition. Pages good condition.
