Cain and John Howard Lawson adapted the story for a US film version in 1938, titled "Algiers," directed by John Cromwell and starring Charles Boyer and Hedy Lamarr. A seminal noir antecedent, oddly produced by the French, who would go on to consider the Americans to be the inventors of the style.White titled wrappers.
