Kyoto, Japan: Kyoto Shoin, Sh wa 39 . As. Hardcover. Very Good. Yoshitaro Kamakura (1898-1983) was designated a Living National Treasure for his accomplishments in traditional resist-dyeing. Kamakura was also an important academic of Okinawan culture and history, often publishing on the subject. First published by Kyoto Shoin in 1958 with subsequent publishing in 1959, 1964, and 1974, this is the 1964 edition. Vol. 1: 21, 40; Vol. 2: 50; Vol. 3: 51-100; Vol. 4: 101-150; Vol. 5: 151-200 pp. Folio. Bound in deep blue and white cloth featuring a floral and bird pattern; paper title labels in Japanese characters pasted to front cover of each volume, gold embossed title and publisher name on spines. The first volume is entitled "Research into Ancient Ry ky Textile Patterns," featuring text and both color plates and black and white photographs of kimonos and various cloth patterns as well as photographs of paintings and scrolls and one drawing. The next four volumes contain only color and black and white plates of patterns.
