Collection includes: "Let Us Talk About India," by Ada Pierce McCormick, broadside offprint of an article from "Editor & Publisher," August 15, 1942; "India News," edited (and largely written) by R. Lal Singh, Vol. 2, No. 10 October 1942, tabloid bifolium emblazoned in red with "Free India Now!" and featuring a range of articles on Churchill, U.S. Policy, etc.; "Open Letter[s] to the Los Angeles Times & Los Angeles Daily News. . ." from R. Lal Singh on the subject of Indian Independence Day, January 26, 1943, broadside; "India Day . . . Buy War Bonds . . ." small broadside announcing rally at LA's Pershing Square in support of Indian independence, Jan 26 (1943) "Help Smash the Famine! Your Allies -- Are-- Starving" broadside poster announcing a meeting for India Famine Relief at the First Unitarian Church of Los Angeles, Nov. 12 (1943); "India and the Battle for Victory," mimeo poster for a lecture by R. Lal SIngh, Dec 6 (1943); "Urgent Appeal to American Labor" mimeograph statement by R. Lal Singh, put out by India News, no date (1943) appealing for support for the release of M.K. Gandhi, then on a hunger strike in jail; "India . . . Resolution on India" large broadside with three-column statement by R. Lal Singh on Indian independence and uriging supporters to demand freedom and arms for India, no date (1943); "What About India Now?" large poster, featuring, superimposed over a map of India, the text of an open letter to Anthony Eden, Cordell Hull, Sumner Welles et al, a portrait of Indian National Congress leader Jawaharlal Nehru,and quotations of support from American sympathizers including Louis Bromfield, Louis Adamic, Sen. Claude Pepper and others. R. Lal Singh, the editor of India News, was a prime mover in building support in the U.S. for Indian independence. After independence, in the postwar era, he pursued a long career as an actor in Hollywood, appearing in films such as "Ben Hur" and "Around the World in 80 Days" as well on TV series including "Dr. Kildare," "Family Affair" and "Star Trek" Some neat pencil notations; few scattered nicks to a few edges
