The Waggoner and other Poems - BLUNDEN, Edmund - 1920.
London: Sidgwick & Jackson, Ltd., 1920 - Octavo. Original purple cloth with white paper spine label. With the dust jacket. Partial tanning to endpapers. An excellent copy in the jacket with the spine panel tanned, and a little chipped at the ends. First edition, first impression, first issue. From an edition of 500, 250 copies were bound in purple cloth for immediate issue, and 100 sets of sheets were sent to NY for Knopf's American edition, and the remaining 150 bound up in green cloth later in 1920. Extremely uncommon in jacket in either issue. Blunden's first trade publication, The Waggoner was issued with the encouragement and assistance of Siegfried Sassoon to whom Blunden had sent some of his work in his capacity as literary editor of the Daily Herald. With the bookplate of the book collector Simon Nowell-Smith (who reached prominence in 1983 when he accepted the Bodleian library's invitation to show his collection in an exhibition rather sweepingly entitled, "Wordswoth to Robert Graves and beyond"), and also the bookplate of Anne Powell, literary scholar and author of books and articles about the poets of the Great War. [Attributes: First Edition]
