Chigusa no Hana - Kono, Bairei - 1890. 
Tanaka Jihei 1890-91, Kyoto - A complete 4 v. set of `Chigusa no Hana` by Kono Bairei (1844-1895). A fascinating encyclopedia of Japanese flowers by this master of kacho-ga, with 200 coloured woodblock prints. The first colour edition, beautifully printed with strong lines and colours (v.1-2 had been published in black and white a year earlier). The original, first edition was published in Includes non-original slipcase. Binding sting cut on 2 volumes. Small ex-owner`s stamp to endpapers. Title plates with pink stains. Occasional minor offsetting. Considerable stains to bindings, and occasionally to endpapers. However contents in extremely bright and clean condition. All volumes have their original title plates. All volumes include an index of the flowers illustrated, including their species, the area in which they can be found (i.e. mountainous regions, fields, etc.), and the season in which they bloom.
