Veduta generale del palazzo di Robecco di - Dal Re, MarcAntonio. (Robecco. - 1726.
Milan 1726 - (Robecco. Plan of the villa and gardens). Veduta generale del palazzo di Robecco di sua E.a ii Sig. Conti Carlo Archinto dalla parte della terra. Engraving from the first edition of Dal Res Ville di Delizia (1726), with title below in Italian and French, overall size 631 x 126mm. £1250 Robecco was situated some 17 miles from Milan on a tributary canal of the river Ticino. It was designed for the main part by the Milanese architect Federico Pietrasanta c 1699). This view, one of 7 in the original work (not reproduced in the Polifilo volume) shows the layout of the four-storeyed palace with the main central section flanked by four wings. Adjoining the left wings is a quadripartite walled garden. The four plots are layed out in symmetrical parterres intersected with paths; trees in pots on pedestals stand at the corners, and an elaborate curved octagonal fountain plays at the intersection. Behind the villa and garden flows the Naviglio canal; the lack of a road coming up to the semi-circular wall of the palazzo suggests that the villa was probably best reached by canal. Fine impression in excellent state of preservation, made up as issued of 3 folios neatly joined. [Attributes: First Edition]
