On ancient Central-Asian tracks. Brief narrative - STEIN, Marc Aurel - 1933.
London Macmillan 1933 - First edition. 8vo., xxiv, 342pp., inscribed copy, 2 pages ads at end, 147 illustrations including some in colour, folding map, top edge gilt others uncut, original tan cloth gilt, gilt medallion to upper cover, light wear, corners bumped, a very good copy. Inscribed in Stein's hand: "Presented to/ Captain and Mrs. Hay/ in grateful remembrance/ of much kind help./ Malakand: May 3, 1933." A comprehensive summary of the results of the author's first three Central Asian expeditions and of his researches carried out during the years 1900-16. In order to avoid repetitions he sometimes includes in one chapter descriptions of a place, such as Niya or Lou-lan from two separate visits which results in some jumping around out of chronological order. He focuses on the most important archaeological excavations with less attention to some of the extended geographical and topographical explorations. Yakushi S723a.
