Published in a small and limited one-time-only print run as a hardcover original only that sold out shortly after publication. There is no ISBN. The Collector's Edition is now rare. Presents, in its Collector's Edition format, John Crowley's "Little, Big". The grand 20th-century response to Lewis Carroll's 19th-century masterpiece, "Alice's Adventures In Wonderland". Perhaps the greatest modern fantasy novel. With just two words and a comma, the simple title encapsulates the novel's cosmic vision. "Little" is our finite world. "Big" is another, infinitely expanding universe. Within our world, there is another; within that, yet another; and another, AD INFINITUM. At the center, accessible only after several epochs, is the Faerie Realm. Unlike our Hollywood special-effects fantasies, which present the universe rather literally as "outer space", "Little, Big" looks deeply within, and envisions the universe as infinite "inner space". Rather than an image-world, a profound, metaphysical vision is awe-inspiringly evoked whereas "Star Wars" (and all of our other fantasies of life elsewhere) are, in the end, merely projections, however spectacular, of our finite world. "A book that, all by itself, calls for a re-definition of fantasy" (Ursula K. Le Guin). "A neglected masterpiece. The closest achievement we have to the Alice stories of Lewis Carroll" (Harold Bloom). "The best fantasy novel ever. Period" (Thomas Disch). An absolute "must-have" title for John Crowley collectors. This is a copy of the Easton Press Collector's Edition, and it is very prominently and beautifully signed in black fountain pen on the title page by John Crowley. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great book. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the Easton Press First Edition Thus/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Crowley did NOT sign most copies of the Collector's Edition. There are NO copies of the Bantam First Edition online whereas copies of the 1981 First British Edition command up to $1500 (rightly so). This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest novelists of our time. A fine collectible copy. .
