A History of English Prosedy - George Saintsbury - 1906. 
Macmillan and Co, London 1906 - Macmillan and Co. London. Very rare complete first editions in very good condition SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Complete sets of Saintsburys History are hard to find - early editions without library marks or card holder even rarer. This is the finest set weve seen. Three volumes (all first editions, first printings) quarto 5 ¾ x 8 ¾ (14.5mm x 22.3mm) in contemporary pale brown calf. Vol 1 1906, xvii, 428pp including a tissue paper protected facsimile of the Hymns of St Godric as a frontispiece; vol 2 1908, xvi, 583pp including addenda and corrigenda for vol I; vol 3 1910, xiii, 562pp including addenda and corrigenda for vol II. Vol 1 only has an embossed and gilded armorial arms of the University of Edinburgh on the front of the binding, with the bookplate of the University to the front endpaper. The Bookplate is completed and signed by the author in Latin as a prize in classics. All volumes complete and all pages tight. Contents VERY GOOD with very minor foxing to some initial pages of each volume. Minor usual bookseller pencil marks. All bindings tight and square with minor bumps to extremities. Some loss of gilt to embossed arms on front of volume 1. Slight damage to rear cover of vol 1. Slight damage to front cover of vol III. See photos. A beautiful set.
