Personality Posters, Inc, New York 1969 - Vintage oversize poster depicting Angela Davis, with her iconic afro, speaking into a bullhorn microphone. Davis is a Civil Rights activist, Marxist, and former Black Panther Party member who became a cause célèbre for her alleged involvement in the murder of a judge and others at the Marin County Courthouse, CA in 1970. Subsequently placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, Davis became a fugitive, was caught, tried, and found not guilty, during which her cause became an international rally cry against both the treatment of African-Americans and the US criminal justice system.The photograph has never been attributed, but was likely taken circa 1969, here subsequently printed the same year by Personality Posters, Inc., a small company that produced, among other prints, a series of posters relating to iconic African-American events from the late 1960s contemporary to their occurrence.Near Fine condition, lightly but evenly toned, with professional restoration at the edges. Approximately 27.25 x 39.5 inches, linen backed, and rolled.
