98 - London - Boydell 1791 - A three volume, complete set of this eighteenth century work on Hogarth, in very attractive leather binding. Comprising of the first two volumes, as well as the subsequent supplementary one published seven years later, theset hereisall the more interersting for its complete state, and is a stunning insight into Hogarth and his work. With one hundred and thirty-six plates and vignettes, reproducing Hogarth's most celebrated works such as Gin Lane, as well as depictions of the artist himself and of the author of these volumes, this unusual eighteenth century set is a comprehenisive, if not definitive, work. Condition: In half-calf binding with gilt detailing and paper-covered boards. Externally quite smart, there is wear to the boards, joints, extemities and backstrips, with some cracking to joints and strain to hinges. Internally, the pages are firmly bound and are bright and clean throughout, aside from the usual spotting to endpages. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED [Attributes: Hard Cover]
