Album Historico: La II Guerra Mundial Illustrada - Arias Bernal, [Antonio] (ills - 1945.
Mexico D.F.: Carral y Carral, - Portfolio: boards, tie, 56 11 3/8" x 15 3/8" colored lithographs. Complete and in near fine condition. A complete set of Mexican caricaturist Arias Bernal's playing card depiction of the personalities and events of World War II. A magnificent set in a lightly worn portfolio. First and only edition. Frontis., 3 jokers, 4 suits, each of 13 cards. Complete. N.B.: the 6 and 8 of hearts were misprinted as the 6 and 8 of spades (though red), but the error was limited to their designation, the depictions proving true to the description provided. Condition: the portfolio's ties extant and solid; light dust-soiling to externals and edges of the internal legend; scuffing to the foot of the spine, rubbing and light scuffing to the edges and corners of the boards. Quite solid, very presentable. The cards themselves are in exemplary condition: the frontispiece is tanned either from its proximity to the boards or, possibly, from exposure to light; it has a very small tear to the right edge and tiny corner turns (without loss) at two of its four; the final card (the King of diamonds) has like tanning to its reverse (though the front is immaculate); one of the Jokers is tanned at its rear but immaculate at its front; there is a minute chip to the upper right corner of the 4 of clubs; light soiling to the margin and upper right corner of the 2 of spades; hint of a fingerprint to the lower margin of the 6 of spades. Other than that there is the barest hint of sunning to a few edges, nothing worse. An uncommonly fine set which will be very carefully protected and packed before shipping. Extra postage will be asked. A comprehensive album of pictures is available for potential buyers. Please inquire. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
