A Grammar of Japanese Ornament and Design - Thomas W. Cutler - 1880. 
B.T. Batsford, London 1880 - Illustrated cream buckram binding. Rebacked with original spine laid over (with slight loss to ends.) Bevelled board edges. Ex library book with slight tape residue to foot of spine and adjoining edges of boards, attractive art nouveau bookplate to front endpaper (Cheltenham public library), thin strip of paper to front endpaper where label has been removed, no stamps or other library markings to the text or plates. Some marking to boards. Decorated endpapers with latter cloth gutters applied when the volume was rebacked. Illustrated title page followed by a printed title page. Complete with all 65 photolithograph plates by C.F. Kell , 7 lettered and 58 numbered (including some very attractive chromolithographs). The text has some margin markings in light pencil. Two of the plates have damage; Plate 16 has a large section torn from the top corner and a vertical crease up the margin side of the plate that terminates in a 4cm tear (this sheet has an archival tape repairs to margins and to the reverse). Plate 28 has a large section torn from the upper margin (illustration is unaffected.) The illustrated title page has slight wear to the outside edge and this has been reinforced with archival tape to the reverse. Plate 17 has a light vertical crease up the inner margin, the plate is not torn but has been reinforced with archival tape to the reverse. A couple of other plates have a short tear to one margin. A high quality and beautifully illustrated Victorian work. Ex library and with a little damage, but still a nice solid example. Overall condition is Good. Hardback.
