30 pp. book of poetry by the avant-garde Hungarian poet, journalist, and photographer, with one linocut by SÃ¡ndor Bortnyik. 8vo. Orig. illus. wrpps., some age-darkening and bumping to extremities. Budapest (Ma KiadÃ¡sa) 1918. SzÃ©lpÃ¡l was a member of the Hungarian avant-garde movement which included Lajos KassÃ¡k and LÃ¡szlÃ³ Moholy-Nagy. Bortnyik was a Hungarian painter and graphic designer greatly influenced by Cubism, Expressionism, and Constructivism. He served as director of the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts from 1949 to 1956, and founded a workshop in Budapest adhering to Bauhaus principles. He is perhaps best known for his advertising posters including images he designed for Modiano Cigarettes. As of March 2016, WorldCat locates two holdings of this title in North American libraries.
