Kate Greenaway Almanack for 1883 - GREENAWAY, Kate - 1882.
George Routledge & Sons 1882 - 32mo. Yellow cloth backed glazed pictorial boards with titles printed in brown , triple-line border in blue, colour image and ¿one shilling¿ price on both front and rear board. Green edges with blue green endpapers (24pp) (Schuster 3, 1a). This is the first in Greenaway¿s series of almanacks and comes with its original, extremely scarce, postage envelope printed in red with the title, an image of a small girl chasing a ball and showing a book postage price half that of a letter. The binding is firm and the corners and spine unrubbed. The boards have been well protected by the mailing envelope and have one or two light marks only. Internally, the book is very clean and bright without inscriptions or other marks. The extremely scarce original mailing envelope is somewhat toned and spotted and missing the top flap and a 2.5 x 0.6cm strip on the front left-hand side. There is also a little loss to the corners and a couple of edge tears. All in all, at least a near fine copy of this the first of Kate Greenaway¿s almanacks with the added benefit of a rare mailing envelope.
