Two-tone olive and dark green cloth, upper board and spine titled in gilt, top edge gilt. Edition limited to 600 copies. Slight staining to corner of front board, light foxing to preliminaries and edges of a few pages, plates clean and bright. Very good. Copy number 47 of 600 copies. Robert Ellis Cunliffe bookplate to front end-paper. A large, very attractively produced book on the natural history of the British species of surface-feeding ducks giving particular note to the identification of young specimens, a subject the author found lacking in earlier literature. Eight of the fine coloured plates are by Archibald Thorburn, thirty-three are by the author, J.G. Millais. Millais also produced the monochrome illustrations. This large-paper edition was limited to only 500 copies.
