Hammersmith: Kelmscott Press,, 1893. printed after the original copies of Venus and Adonis, 1593. The Rape of Lucrece, 1594. Sonnets, 1609. The Lover's Complaint. Octavo. Original limp vellum by J. and J. Leighton of London, title to spine gilt, 4 silk ties. Printed in Golden type on Flower (2) paper. 3 full-page woodcut borders, corner border, 6- and 10-line initials, Kelmscott device to colophon ; poem titles, shoulder titles and sonnet numbers in red. Spine darkened, faint tide-mark to lower inner corners of covers, a few small pale markings to rear, short neat tear to upper eyelet on front cover just touching one letter on spine, rear upper tie laid in, contents crisp and fresh. A very good copy. First Kelmscott edition, one of 500 copies on paper (10 copies were done on vellum); issued 13 February 1893. Cockerell in 1898 described the volume as "one of the rarest books issued from the Press" because of its popularity.
