Kaisei Shinsen Tokyo Jissoku Zenzu. ?????????? - JAPAN - TOKYO) Katsugoro¯ Inou - 1892.
Tokyo.: Katsugoro¯ Inoue.. Meiji 25. 1892.. Engraved map with woodblock color on Japanese paper, 24 1/4 x 27 3/4 inches on sheet 26 x 28 1/2 inches, folding into paper covered boards with cloth spine 7 1/2 x 5 inches. There are 2 or 3 tiny holes (pinhead size) and a little light soiling to the map, otherwise very good condition. The boards are moderately worn with light soiling. The map has been somewhat crudely folded into the board covers. Some wear and light abrasion to covers; Japanese writing (previous owners name?) on back cover. This map is distinguished by 15 small engraved vignette illustrations with an elaborate banner title intertwined with cherry blossoms. Vignettes include one of a train and a Western style steel bridge, but also have scenes in the Japanese tradition eg. cherry trees blooming by the Sumida River. Here the western tradition of direction north at the top of the map is followed. At the lower right is a table with full listing of Tokyo municipalities, counties and wards, townships and villages. At left on the cover: Tokyo shoshi Kinshidokan (?). .
