Davies, 1807 - Octavo (203 Ã— 128 mm) Contemporary sprinkled calf, neatly rebacked to style, green morocco label, compartments formed by rope-twist roll, fine foliate panel gilt to the boards, dun endpapers. A little rubbed, judicious restoration to the boards, title page and frontispiece spotted and some browning throughout as often, but overall a very good copy. Portrait frontispiece and a plate of the fatal musket ball. First edition. Beatty was the naval surgeon "who attended Nelson after he received his fatal wound, [and] performed the autopsy" (ODNB). He wrote this account for Clark and M'Arthur's monumental Life "but it was published in this form because of 'the length of time which must necessarily elapse before so extensive and magnificent a Publication can be completed'" (NMM).
