      In urbe maguntina [attributed Johann Gutenberg 1459/60]. Pristine. Removed original leaf, designated in pencil as leaf 24 (of 373 leaves), 66 lines in double-column format, containing text from Cauma - Cedron. -- The Gothic black letter text left room for initial capitals which have been painted by hand in red. -- From the incomplete Sloan-Krech copy which was broken up in the 1930s. -- Goff B20; Hain-Copinger 2254; GKW 3182; Pell 1702; Oates 47; ML I-39. -- An etymological dictionary of the Latin language, completed in 1286, and the earliest printed non-theological book (Catholic encyclopedia, 8. 472b); its colophon, which includes the place [Mainz] and the date 1460, is illustrated in V. Scholderer, Johann Gutenberg, plate X. -- An illustration of the first page and an extended description appear in Lagercatalog 585: Incunabula xylographica et typographica 1455 -- 1500, by Joseph Baer & Co., Frankfurt, 1910, pages [11]-18. Binding is Extracted leaf.
