Magdeburg, Michael Lotter, (ca. 1535). Sm.8vo. Old boards. (75) lvs. One of the earliest school dictionaries of Latin synonyms by the Silesian humanist and school-director Hieronymus Cingularius Aurimontanus, Latin for Hieronymus Gürtel von Wildenberg (ca. 1465-1558). He was the founder of a famous German private school at Goldberg, for which he composed a number of school books after the latest pedagogical opinions and educational methods. The present school dictionary, first published at Wittenberg in 1513, was rather successful, Claes recording some 20 editions, but not the present one. The book is divided into two parts, the first part giving words in German, alphabetically arranged, with a wide choice of Latin synonyms, and the second part lists a large number of Latin expressions, alphabetically arranged according to the main word. Good copy of a rare edition.- (Sl. thumbed and browned). Hülse, Beitr. Gesch. Buchdruckerkunst Magdeburg, in: Geschichts-Blätter Stadt u. Land Magdeburg, 1880-1882, 196; Cf. STC German 210 (other ed.); this ed. not in Claes, Bibl. Verz. deutschen Vocab. u. Wörterb. bis 1600, 1977; not in NUC.
