The volumes contain many engraved plates of highly finished Steel engravings, including frontispiece portraits and engraved title pages. The decorative set shows well, with show mild external age/wear, including rubbing to the leather More-so to spine of Volume 1) and some sunning to the boards. The volumes are solidly bound with lightly age-toned pages, featuring brightly gilded page edges. Some foxing present mainly associated with plates. Double column text. contemporary brown. Vol 1 - 3: 640 pages each; vol 4: 626 pages with an index. . Very Good. Hardcover. 1871. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall.
