Ioannis Cnobbari 1660 - Folio, engraved title-page + engraved frontispiece + lxi + 928pp + xvii. Bound in contemporary blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, six raised bands, all edges blue. Minor wear to boards, inconspicuous library stamps on half-title and title-page, slight browning, lacking clasps. Drexelius was a Lutheran convert to Catholicism. After joining the Jesuit order in 1598 he completed his theological studies at Ingolstadt, and for 23 years was the preacher at the court of the elector of Bavaria, Maximilian I. After his death he was venerated by the people as a saint and an ode in Latin was composed for him by the Alsatian poet Balde (1604-1668). We donate 1% of the sale of this book to bookish charities.
