Timber: Or, Discoveries; Made Upon Men and Matter. [Shakespeare]
Meighen 1641 - First printing of Johnson's collection of literary notes and observations from his later years which is notable for containing one of the few contemporary accounts of Shakespeare. It includes the pronouncement that "I loved the man, and do honour his memory.," This volume consists of pp. 85-132 from Ben Jonson. Workes. (Vol. 2. London: R. Meighen, 1640.) which was published six years after his death (containing the first printing of Timber). A tall, slim volume: 7.5" X 11". This copy has been nicely rebound in three-quarters leather with a leather spine label. Japanese paper endpapers. Title page has faint dampstaining in one margin; all pages with browning around margins and age toning but text clean and fully legible. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
